Joey floated in and out of consciousness. He felt nothing. He was nothing. Then his existence was a canvas of memories.

The Tidal Moon Lord dominated Joey’s fragmented memories with repeat beatings and powerful water gravity magic. It looked like Joey was losing in his dreams.

Then he slapped the god and ended the fragmented torment.

Joey stirred a little after that. He felt the deadened weight of his body. His mind’s eye saw shifting shadows all around him. The presence of others.

His senses turned on one by one.

He was warm. His head was lying on something soft, with his back propped up. He smelled a variety of perfumes, the scent of the sea, and a light hint of fishiness.

He heard heartbeats thumping in the nearest chests.

His body was surrounded. But he was not in danger.

Fingers stroked gently through his mangy and wild hair. Long feminine nails traced over his scalp. He’d felt this before. He knew what was happening.

It felt nice getting treated by someone who cared a lot about him.

It felt nice having people who cared. Very nice.

Finally, Joey opened his eye and looked up blearily. There was a rust-colored form hovering over him. It was blurry at first. Then his vision cleared.

“Master,” Mollysea murmured, combing through his hair still. He was laying back with his head on her lap. “It’s good to see you’re awake again.”

She smiled down at him, though it was hard to see with her bust in the way. He could tell through her eyes.

If it was anyone else other than Joey, she would’ve repulsed them. But her anti-charm had no effect on him.

It bothered the nearest sirens surrounding them. They endured the anti-charm anyway.

They huddled in from everywhere. Not quite touching. But they loomed over Joey’s laid back position. Getting close, covering all angles.

They were staring, heads tilted, eyes searching up and down his body. Mouths slightly parted.

Some sirens licked their lips.

They looked … thirsty. Hungry, even.

Second Siren Mossy was chief among the supreme specialists hanging close to Joey’s prone body. They could’ve killed him while he was unconscious. They could’ve destroyed naga wretches and the Renegades.

There was only one reason they hadn’t.

“Our master has awakened,” Second Siren Mossy declared. “Show your thanks to his grand mercy.”

The Second Siren backed away, shifting like a bear-sized woman. Then she lowered down, forehead to floor.

All the supreme specialists shifted and kowtowed with her. They showed Joey the greatest respect anyone could ever have while not being Princess Maylolee.

Did I really just steal a bunch of super soldier water amazons from the princess?

Joey could hardly believe it. Everything he’d faced felt like a dream. Like someone else had done it.

But that could be him feeling groggy after one of the worst fights he’d been through in a while.

The supreme specialists kept kowtowing, waiting on him.

“Oh, uh, rise,” Joey ordered.

They all rose to one knee with perfect synchrony, Mossy remaining the largest because of her bigger frame. With her so close to him, she seemed like a different species of war siren altogether.
